| Open Question: How to plant vegetables in aquaponics? |
I have a large aquarium 100cm x 50cm x 50cm and would like to use it to make a cheap aquaponic.I want to know what material should I use to settle and float the plants, so they could have their roots dangling on the water and absorbs nutrients without me using pumps or too much electricity.I will also be depending on fluorescent lamp, 6200K - 6500K (spectrum of sunlight), how long should the plants receive exposure? The area receives no direct sunlight but is still bright. Thanks Rating: 0.00 (0 votes) |

| Open Question: please explain to me how vermiponics works? |
Okay, I thought aquaponics is the best way to go, but, BAM! Comes vermiponics, an even less maintenance urban veggie gardening. So, is this basically having your worm castings watered and sent to the roots of plants? Does the water have to completely flood the worm bin or just showering like rain? I also want to float the vegetables on top of my fish tank, using styrofoam mat, and then on the bottom is an air pump that blows gently using the bar shaped distributor / air stone. The fish are probably fancy goldfish, or just some little shrimps.Things I'm thinking of using:- Fluorescent lamp 6200K - 6500K -> sunlight substitute- Air pump with the long air stone to blow gentle bubbles- Plant pots using recycled plastic, holed, fixed on styrofoam mat on top of aquarium water.- Worm bin, with aquarium gravel for substrate, the water is kept running but not too muchAny good explanation? Any tips? Thank you! :) Rating: 0.00 (0 votes) |

| Open Question: 10 Acre hobby farm in Florida Lots of Questions? |
I have no experience with farming, but it has been my dream to have a small one for the family to eat healthy, organically and get back to nature. I am experienced with small scale gardening and my husband has some experience raising chickens. I just started my research and any advice would be most helpful. We are already buying equipment to start an aquaponics garden and are looking for fish that would be perfect for our climate. I'm not so worried about the gardening, it's livestock that's really foreign to me. We were thinking of getting a small chicken coop. Would 3 laying hens, 3 brooder hens and one rooster suffice for a family of four? I was thinking of getting 2 piglets and a boar, but heard that care for them could be quit expensive. How much would it cost? We would also like to 2 female dexters and one male for milking and breeding, and add some fruit baring trees. It's important to note that our overall goal is to live totally off of the land getting much of our food intake from produce and livestock we grow. Does our stock sound reasonable given the amount of acreage. Also, I will be the only one tending the animals & garden for the most part, as he works full-time, which is a big factor in how much we can do. Links & Contacts are very much appreciated. | Open Question: dating is not rational, so why do teenagers partake in it? |
I am a male in grade 10 and I am curious as to why teenagers date. I see my peers participating in this activity, and I find it to be very interesting. Why do teenagers participate in this irrational activity? My peers seem spend an inordinate amount of time on dating. At the same time, their grades slip. They would rather spend Friday nights dating, than preparing for their future. I find this an absurd notion, but when I try to discuss it with my peers, they laugh me off. Dating is irrational because: Causes emotions which affect your judgement. Possibility of pregnancy if coitis in involved. Possibility of STI if coitis is involved. Love is not real. It is caused by brain chemicals. No different than Heroin. Marriage is just another industry created for the profit of churches and lawyers. Women also seem to damage careers. I will never get married or date. I respect the right to self determination, but would the time not be better spent on some other project? I usually take the dance time to work on an aquaponics system I am designing for instance. They also miss the opportunity to study that night. Emotions only detract from the logical part of the brain. I am not perfect in this regard, since it has been 2 years since a started eradicating them, and they keep resurfacing. Any way to finally kill them off? Medications? Fun does not cure cancer, happiness does not cure HIV, romance does not end world hunger, and dating does not form a peace treaty in Israel. Logic does. Questions: Why do teenagers waste so much time dating? Why do people bother to get married? How can I kill off my emotions? I am not a loner as some people have said in the past. Dating will never be a part of my life, but having the knowledge on this prevalent activity is important because knowledge is power. Similar to Heroin. You should understand it, but never do it. | Open Question: How can I get my son to loosen up? He is not enjoying his childhood? ? |
My son is in grade 10, and he seems wound up tightly, stressed, and unhappy. How can I get him to loosen up? List of projects he is currently working on and making progress in:Learning 3D animationLearning HTMLLearning CCS or CSS ( I forget)Learning GermanMaking notes for Chemistry and physics. Topics he will learn in two years. Philatelic ExhibitDesigning a submarine glider thing. Designing an aquaponics facility. Building the shed for the aquaponics tank. (Have a large yard)Running the campaign of a candidate for alderman. Building the website for said campaign. Designing the graphics for campaign. Science fair next year. He is making considerable headway on each of these, but the cost appears to be high. He sleeps for 3 hours a day on average, spends all his time in his room on his laptop, working on the shed, or using this plotter my father bought for him. He has no friends, except for a few adults he knows through award ceremonies or the Internet. He has basically killed off his emotions as well. He has no interest in girls, and tries to avoid talking to girls whenever possible. I personally feel that his health is threatened. I once found him collapsed on his desk from fatigue. However, my husband said that is not a major issue. He and my father procured all the equipment and materials to make all his projects possible and are genuinely happy with my sons projects and they keep on buying the materials to help him do more. They want him to work on renewable energy next, for the aquaculture tank. Anyway, what are your thoughts on this? A lot of you said previously to leave him alone to succeed. Problem is, he is very close to complete burnout. My questions: How can I get him to stop and smell the roses? Why does he dislike talking to girls/women?Is 3 hours of sleep enough? Any other thoughts/comments? Rating: 0.00 (0 votes) |

| Open Question: What are some hanging aquaponics systems? |
I'm trying to construct an aquaponics system in which I could use a miniature Pelton Wheel to generate electricity. I had planned to use a system in which I have a water container that is slightly angled downhill and I figured I could use a system that hangs above the water so that it'll work. Any idea of what system(s) I could use? Rating: 0.00 (0 votes) |

| Open Question: Are there any aquaponics farm in Boston/Cambridge area? |
I am teaching an afterschool class in environmental sustainability and I was thinking that a field trip would be in order for my elementary students. I would love to go to an aquaponic farm in Boston or nearby to Boston. I have been looking up local farms but every time I end up at a dead end. If you know of any aquaponic farm or any organic based farms near Boston, let me know. Rating: 0.00 (0 votes) |

Questions: Why do teenagers waste so much time dating? Why do people bother to get married? How can I kill off my emotions? How can I make sure that I never have irrational urges?I am not a loner as some people have said in the past. Dating will never be a part of my life, but having the knowledge on this prevalent activity is important because knowledge is power. Similar to Heroin. You should understand it, but never do it. | Resolved Question: Dating is not a rational activity, so why do teenagers partake in it? |
| Open Question: Dating and marriage are irrational and complete wastes of time? How can I eliminate my emotions completely? |
I am a male in grade 11, and I am puzzled. I have been studying emotions and relationships (They are irrational and irrelevant in my life, but knowledge is power) and I am curious as to why my peers allow their emotions to affect them and date. They also plan to get married for some unknown reason. My peers seem spend an inordinate amount of time on dating. At the same time, their grades slip. They would rather spend Friday nights dating, than preparing for their future. I find this an absurd notion, but when I try to discuss it with my peers, they laugh me off. If hormones ever affect me, however unlikey, what would be the treatment for that? Rating: 0.00 (0 votes) |

| Open Question: What kinds of freshwater fish don't eat plant roots? |
Trying to get an aquaponics raft system going, but without fish it's not taking off at all. It's tied in with 2 other tanks with fish and another grow bed, the other grow bed is doing great. Really need to get some fish in there, we already have a bunch of goldfish but I know they will terrorize roots. Can't find a list of fish that are safe for raft systems and won't eat roots, anywhere online. Please help!! Rating: 0.00 (0 votes) |
